Welcome to Class 1! Class 1 is taught by Miss Scott and our TA is Mrs Coulthard. Our first topic this year is ‘A Green and Pleasant Land’; which is a History focus. As historians we will be examining how landscapes and gardens have changed over time. We explore the influences of Capability Brown and Gertrude Jekyll on our environment. We will be looking at wild plants and garden plants and making different soups to try. We are also planning a trip to Berrington Hall, where we can explore the extensive gardens. In English our first Talk for Writing text is Jack and the Beanstalk with a focus on adjectives and our descriptive writing. In Maths, we are investigating place value (within 10) and addition and subtraction (within 10).
Year 1 pupils will take the Phonics screening test in June. We use Little Wandle to help us develop our phonics skills. There will be a lot of support with weekly sounds/words uploaded to Seesaw and sent home with each child. Please try to practise these as much as possible with your child. We will be reading daily in school in guided reading sessions. Please also read with your child at home as much as possible (preferably daily) as children who read at home will make much better progress with their overall learning.
We look forward to the year ahead.
In the event of being required to self-isolate, Class 1 pupils, should follow the remote learning timetable for the relevant week. Teachers will use Seesaw to communicate with your child about their learning and suggest suitable tasks, activities and links to supplement those outlined in the remote learning plan. Most tasks can be completed online or through the use of pencil and paper. For tasks where you may require a printer, but are unable to access one or you have problems getting online, feel free to ask us for further support by contacting the office. Remember to make sure you include time for looking after your health and wellbeing. Stay safe.
