Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

 at St Thomas Cantilupe Cof E Primary School

 

The staff at St Thomas Cantilupe are committed to providing care and education to all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND).
A child has special educational needs if he or she has difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for him or her to learn than most other pupils of a similar age. Many children will have a special need of some kind during their education. Some children will need extra help and support from us, for some or all of their time at our school.

 

Mrs Laws is the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) at St Thomas Cantilupe and she works on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Mrs Laws can be contacted  on 01432 268400 or via email: KLSENDCO@st-thomascantilupe.hereford.sch.uk       

 

If you have any concerns regarding your child, it is helpful to chat to their class teacher in the first instance, prior to speaking to the SENCO.

  • Hereford and Worcester Dyslexia Association Hereford and Worcester Dyslexia Association (HWDA) is a local charity which covers the two counties and aims to help by: providing specialist teaching in literacy, maths and study skills for children with dyslexia or dyslexic-type difficulties and/or dyscalculic-type difficulties through its workshops in Hereford, Worcester and Bromsgrove.
  • Special Needs Jungle Special Needs Jungle provides parent-centred information, news, special needs resources and informed opinion about SEND - Special education needs and disability, Education, Health and Care Plans, children's physical and mental health including rare disease and SEN politics
  • The Book Trust (getting children reading) Sharing a book with a child is fun - it's a time for closeness, laughing and talking together. It can also give children a flying start in life and help them become lifelong readers. But not everyone is confident with books and reading aloud, so BookTrust has produced some handy tips and advice to help your child at home.
  • Oxford Owl Lots of parents worry about their child’s reading. Parents can be pretty competitive and when you hear the playground chat about how well another child is doing with her reading, it’s easy to feel that your child might be getting left behind. It’s important to remember that reading isn’t a race. Being a good reader might be the finishing line, but children get there in many different ways and at different speeds.   • Mencap Mencap is a UK charity for people with a learning disability. We support their families and carers, too. Find out more about our services and get involved.
