  • Learning about people who help us

    Wed 19 Apr 2023

It was a big suprise to come to school today and find an air ambulance on our playground! Children from nursery all of the way to Year 6 learnt about the important job that the air ambulance does in our area. They also learnt that we need to support this vital charity. It was exciting for children to be able to sit in the ambulance and to explore how it works. Thanks to the wonderful staff who came today; you made sure that every child was able to ask a question and all could have time to find out more. A real sense of unity today.

  • Science Week at STC

    Fri 31 Mar 2023

Science week was first class at STC in 2023.

Our science lead, MIss Harris, planned lots of exciting learning for children across the school. We linked up with the NFU to learn more about farming and science. We worked together with @microbit-edu to teach children about computational thinking and coding.  STEMeducation and Simple Design Works were very impressed with the children's determination to succeed when learning something new.  We were also delighted to welcome NMITE, our neighbours and friends, to school. Working with NMITE's lecturers and students children learnt to make moving toys using cams. The staff from  NMITE were impressed withe the children's enthusiasm for science and technology commenting that it was, 'great to see such interest at a young age.' Children across KS2 found out what an engineers is, what an engineer does and what the opportunities for the future might be. Bringing STEM to life with experts working directly with the children at STC was a real privilege. Thank you to everyone who supported us in a superb week.

  • Exciting visits at STC

    Sat 11 Feb 2023

At St Thomas, we believe in bringing learning to life through making the most of our beautiful city and through visiting different locations in the U.K. Classes 1 and 2 have been learning about castles and were very fortunate to find out about Hereford Castle, thanks to local historian, Bill Laws. Not only did Bill spend time answering questions and teaching them about the castle but he also joined the class on a visit to Castle Green. To add to this great experience, children in Classes 1 and 2 visited Warwick Castle. At STC all visits are always subsidised for all children. Every child climbed to the top of the tower, they found the portcullis, turrets, tower and more. The children learnt about the past, how people lived and how they had to defend themselves from invasion. We were very proud of all of the children, their manners, their great questions and enthusiasm for learning. Both Bill and the staff at Warwick Castle commented on how well the children represented our school.

  • After school clubs - free of charge for all children

    Wed 18 Jan 2023

We are pleased to be able to offer a wide range of after school clubs which are free of charge for all children of all ages.

Our specialist PE coaches offer lunchtime and after school clubs for children across the school. The Encore service offer music clubs where children learn to play a range of percussion instruments as well as learning songs and rhymes. Mrs Smith runs two clubs for children who speak English as an additional language. These clubs combine cookery, reading and writing and are very popular. A big thank you to the Co-op for their support with these. Finally, we are pleased to say that Dandylionss are running an after school forest school club starting this term with Y1 children. Some pictures are below.

All of these opportunities are available to all children at no cost. Our aim is to continually broaden every child's education and to support families; living out our core values and enabling every child to shine.

  • Wonderful singing

    Tue 20 Dec 2022

This term, children at St Thomas Cantilupe have taken part in many concerts, services and performances. Our youngest children took part in a nativity, children in our school choir took part in the Christmas Carol service at Hereford Cathedral, children in Y5/6 led a Eucharist service at Holy Trinity church and sang in All Saints whilst the whole school took part in our end of term Carol Service at St Peter's.

These wonderful opportunities have been made possible by the team from the West Hereford Ministry, St Peter's church, the DHMAT and David Evans, our choirmaster. A huge thank you goes to them all for ensuring that children in our school live out our core values of perseverance, unity and love, through music.

  • Great teamwork with parents

    Thu 03 Nov 2022

We have had several fantastic meetings with parents already this term. Every class has invited parents to come and join their children with reading, maths work, art or history. The teamwork between school and home is a real strength of the school and something that we are very proud of.

Our families who speak English as an Additional Language have also joined us to share different ways in which we can work together to support children's learning. These were such positive sessions and the feedback from them has been great.

Our strong partnership working is something which we are looking forward to continuing next term.

  • A creative start to term

    Tue 27 Sep 2022

Our new reception class have settled into school life straight away. Having purpose built spaces including a fantastic woodwork area has helped them to make the most of every moment. Children throughout the school have been enjoying art, from sketching to batik work, as well as sharing their art work from home with us. Creativity is developed in other subjects such as writing with Pie Corbett who shared writing from children at STC with the whole of the UK and even schools around the world!

  • The end of term

    Sun 17 Jul 2022

As the year draws to a close there is much to be thankful for. Children in reception had great fun exploring our forest school, Miss Atkinson led a whole school PE warm up and Y5 sang at Evensong in Holy Trinity Church. The ways in which children have shone this year is endless but we are especially proud of their perseverance, united spirit and the love that they have shown to one another and our school.

The Y6 Leavers' service at Hereford Cathedral brought all of this togther. Walking down Church Street in the sunshine, sitting quietly in the awe inspiring building, listening to words about the future, singing and leading the blessing for everyone assembled there spoke about who we are and what we do. 'Shine bright your light.'

  • Y6 adventures

    Sun 26 Jun 2022

This month, over 40 children from Y6 had a wonderful week at Redridge, in Mid Wales. Our school values of unity, perseverance and love shone out as children worked together, attempted things they never dreamed possible and had lots of fun.

Activities included paddle boarding, caving, archery, high ropes, kayaking, orienteering, abseiling and rock climbing as well as walking in the most incredible scenery. It was a brilliant visit and one that Y6 and the staff who took them will remember forever.

  • Fun in the sun for Early Years

    Mon 16 May 2022

Children in our reception and nursery classes have been delighting in school life this month.

In nursery, a new 'creative station' has captured children's imaginations whilst in reception water play and the giant mud pit have been very popular with the children.

Coming soon will be a woodworking bench, with some teaching from Mr Rees, our friendly carpenter as well as an exciting new kitchen.

We are also pleased to have created a dedicated family room where our community can come together. Lessons for parents who want to learn or improve English have already begun with spaces available for anyone who would like to join us. Please do get in touch for further details.
