Art & Design
Year 2 started the year with some autumnal collage and have more recently been refining their sketching skills through drawing vehicles and the school building.
Year 3 focused on the 16th century artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, creating their own reproductions of the fruit and vegetable pictures using collage and pencil crayons.
Year 4, 5 & 6 have been focusing on understanding the 7 elements of art, perfecting the colour wheel and expanding their colour name knowledge. Year 4 then went onto looking at texture and pattern as well as using clay to recreate models of Stonehenge as this linked in with their Stone Age topic.Year 4 also trialed carving soap stone and had much success with carving small detailed fish.
Year 5 & 6 completed lots of sketching of fruit and vegetables, painting close up studies to go on display around the school and in St. Peter's Church. They then discovered Pop Art this term and enjoyed learning about Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, creating their own designs using a variety of mediums.
Design & Technology
Year 2 started the year with a topic on wheels and axles. This included understanding the different parts of a vehicle, how wheels work, design processes, creating car prototypes, making final buses and evaluating their work. The children were incredibly proud of their finished buses and enjoyed racing them around the hall!
Year 3 & 4 will be focusing on levers; making their own nursery rhyme posters and moving Christmas cards.
Year 5 & 6 have been tasting and evaluating soups and packaging, researching recipes, working out costs and making their own soups. They will also be making their own bread.
Over the next few weeks in the run up to Christmas, all children will be completing lots of Christmas crafts, including: making Christmas decorations for the school tree taking part in the All Saints Church Christmas Tree festival, making products to sell at the Christmas fair, making Christmas cards, completing Christmas baking and decorating the school.
